About Cedrick
Introducing the Steel Drum Music of Sir Cedrick Luces
South Florida and the Florida Keys' most sought-after steel drum artist — and Miami’s 1991 Calypso King.

Born in Laventille, Trinidad, the birthplace of the steel drum, Cedrick Luces (known as Sir Cedrick) has dedicated his life to sharing the soulful sounds of the islands. As a teenager, he toured Venezuela with the renowned Belmont Steel Band, honing his craft and falling deeper in love with the music of his roots.

In his twenties, Cedrick moved to the United States, where he collaborated with some of the biggest names in jazz and Caribbean music. He played alongside celebrated jazz pannist Othello Molineaux, legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, and esteemed saxophonist Joe Donato. Cedrick was also part of the early Miami Calypso scene, performing with pioneers like Lord Fishray and Slick, Doctor Cheeko, and Bahamian artist Ben Tinker.

In 1986, Cedrick co-founded the New Rhythm Band with Jamaican guitar legend Ernest Ranglin, creating original, impromptu melodies and transforming them through the warm, bell-like tones of the steel drum. His style seamlessly blends calypso, jazz, and reggae into a smooth, signature sound that is distinctly his own.

In 1991, Sir Cedrick won Miami’s Calypso King Competition with his original hit, “If You Drink My Wine,” which later became the title of one of five albums he produced with Ward Kremer throughout the 1990s. His other albums from that era include:

-
Island Riddim
-
Pan Jammin
-
Ready to Party
-

Between 2000 and 2006, he continued producing new music with albums like:
