Introducing to you the steel drum music of Sir Cedrick Luces, south Florida and the Florida Keys most

sought after Steel Drum Player and Miami’s 1991 Calypso King. Cedrick was born on the Island of

Trinidad, in Laventille, which is the birthplace of steel drums. As a teenager, Cedrick toured Venezuela

with the famous Belmont Steel Band. In his twenties, Cedrick came to the United States and played with celebrated jazz pannist, Othello Mollineaux, and performed with the legendary jazz bass player, Jaco Pastorius. He has also performed with the esteemed saxophonist, Joe Donato, and some pioneers of the early Miami Calypso scene, including, Lord Fishray and his side-kick, Slick, Doctor Cheeko, and Bahamian artist, Ben Tinker. In 1986 Cedrick formed the New Rhythm Band along with legendary Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin. Cedrick created original impromptu melodies and transformed them through the velvet, bell-like tones of his steel drum music. He is a versatile musician adapting his playing techniques to incorporate the best jazz, calypso, and reggae for a smooth original sound.

 

In 1991, Sir Cedrick competed and won Miami’s Calypso King Competition, with his original composition

“If you drink my wine”, which became the title of one of his five albums produced by Ward Kremer, during the 90s. The other albums were, “Island Riddim”, “Pan Jammin”, “Ready to Party” and “The best of Sir Cedrick”.

 

Between the years 2000 and 2006, Cedrick has produced and recorded four albums: “Steel drum

Concert” Volume’s 1 and 2, “Welcome to the Florida Keys”, and "Old Time Melodies". These are all

available on the website along with the “Best of Sir Cedrick” (produced by Ward Kremer), at

Sir Cedrick’s fans have enjoyed his music all over the USA, with performances in Atlanta GA, Charleston

SC, Denver CO, New Orleans LA, South Florida the Florida Keys and the Jersey Shore in NJ. His greatest recognition has resulted from his long-term engagements over the last thirty years. He spent ten years performing at the World-Famous Holiday Isle & Tiki Bar in Islamorada in the Florida Keys, ten years at Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key also in the Florida Keys and the last 9 years at Jimbo’s Bar and Grill on the Boardwalk at Seaside Heights NJ.

 

Besides being an accomplished steel drum player, and entertainer Sir Cedrick is also an excellent vocalist.
